SARI Explains the Conundrum of Globalization Facing Japanese Universities as a Result of COVID

In an article for his personal blog, Xiaochen Su, the Founder and Managing Director of the Study Abroad Research Institute (SARI), argues that the COVID-19 pandemic is negatively affecting Japanese universities' globalization plans. While lower-tier universities are running out of money to continue their globalization drives and even continue operating at all, top schools may find it increasingly financially sensical to cater exclusively to domestic students who easier to teach and more available as the number of surviving universities declines over time.
